Friends,

Last week, I had the opportunity to vote on a budget proposed by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the House Budget Committee. This budget is the second budget proposed by House Republicans since 2010, while the Senate has still yet to even draft a budget in over 1000 days!

This budget, yet again, addresses the out-of-control spending culture that persists in Washington. The refusal by some in Washington to adhere to the budgeting process has allowed government to keep writing blank checks that continue to build on the already massive debt that will be passed out to the next generation. Simply, Washington has to, and needs to, stop the out-of-control spending spree.

The 2012 House Republican budget repeals Obamacare, protects the doctor patient relationship, protects our troops from reckless and dangerous cuts, curbs federal spending by $1.1 trillion relative to last year’s Republican proposal, prevents $2 trillion in tax increases proposed by the President, and puts us on a path to balance the budget.

Provides for the Common Defense

The safety and security of the American people is the first responsibility of the federal government. Our military, and our overall security, is being threatened by our massive debt. Defense spending is not the cause of our debt; blank check spending habits by liberals in Washington is the cause.

The President wants to cut over $500 billion from the defense budget over the next decade to help balance the budget. These senseless cuts would jeopardize critical missions and the overall well-being of our soldiers and their families. Our brave men and women serving in our Armed Forces should not pay the price for Washington’s failure to take action.

Restoring Economic Freedom

America’s economic success has been driven by a free-market system that does not include the government picking winners and losers. Our free-enterprise system is being stifled by government overreach and excessive taxes and regulations that have weakened the confidence in our economy.

With unemployment still hovering at 9%, Washington needs to get out of the way of private business and allow for job creators to create jobs. More and more money is being spent on compliance instead of being used for business expansion and hiring more employees. This budget restores fiscal discipline by cutting over $5 trillion in government spending so the private sector can grow.

The House Republican budget also repeals Obama’s healthcare law, reverses the President’s failed economic policies that cause high prices at the pump, and instead, promotes an all-the-above strategy that unlocks the vast resources we have here at home. This approach will lower energy costs, create real jobs right away, and reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

Repairing the Safety Social Safety Net

The government programs aimed to protect and assist those that need help are failing to deliver on their promise because they are on an unsustainable path. We must keep the promises we have made to those who have made this country great.

Currently, these safety net programs promote dependence and leave the lower-income Americans most at risk. This budget returns power of public assistance programs over to the states giving them the freedom and flexibility to tailor programs that uniquely fit their population.

This plan focuses on realigning incentives to ensure these programs can be successful at all levels. It strengthens job training and education assistance programs to help Americans get the education and tools they need to thrive in 21st century global economy.

Strengthening Health and Retirement Security

This budget will ensure the promises we have made to our seniors our kept. The House Republicans believe, in order to strengthen Social Security and Medicare, power does not need to be in the hands of Washington bureaucrats but in the hands of the patients and retirees.

It is our plan to save Medicare for current and future generations, with no disruptions for those in and near retirement. Obamacare jeopardizes access to treatment by putting Medicare cuts in the hands of empowered bureaucrats. This budget repeals Obamacare in its entirety, provides quality health support, offers more affordable healthcare, and allows competitive bidding the free-market to drive down costs.

Pro-Growth Tax Reform

Our tax code gets more complex by the minute. It is overgrown with special interest loopholes, political favoritism, and high rates that stifle innovation, economic growth, and job creation.

Our plan reforms the broken tax code by lowering taxes, closing loopholes, and putting hard working Americans first over special interests. These pro-growth reforms ensure the tax code is simpler, fairer, and competitive in a global economy.

This plan is opposite of the President who wants to raise taxes, spend more, and pick winners and losers. We have already seen 3 years of his economic plan of taxing, taxing, and more taxing, and enough is enough.

The 2012 House Republican budget put for forth by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) lays out a solid plan to curb government spending, reduce our debts and deficits, reduce and simplify taxes, promote job growth, and puts us on a path to balance the budget. It continues to change the conversation of how much to we spend to how much we can safely cut without putting at risk our military and the promises we made to our seniors. Simply, this plan saves America and puts our country back on a Path to Prosperity.

Sincerely,

Friends,

I want to extend a gracious and heart felt thank you to all that came out on Election Day and showed your support. Lisa and I really appreciate it. We have made great strides in changing the culture of Washington over the past 15 months and I look forward to continuing our work together as we put South Mississippi and our Nation back on a Path to Prosperity.

Our country is still at a crossroads. We must stand united behind smaller government, less job-killing regulations, lower taxes and the values that made this country great. Instilling your confidence in me once more as your Republican nominee for Congress takes us one step closer to getting our country back on the path of fiscal sanity, a health care system free of government intrusion, a working energy policy that will lower prices at the pump, and an economic environment friendly to job creators.

As we gear up this summer for the General Election on November 6th, I need to your help to continue fighting the liberal Obama agenda in Washington. Your generous contribution of $1000, $500, $250, $100, $50, or even $10 goes a long way to make sure we keep a leading conservative voice for South Mississippi in Washington. Please click here if you would like help.

Please email me at info@palazzoforcongress.com if you have any questions.

Once again, I am humbled and thankful by your ongoing support and I am honored to be serving as your Representative.

Sincerely,

P.S.

On Tuesday, March 13, over 80,000 people went to the polls to cast their ballot in the 4th Congressional District. The overall voter turnout from the 2012 Republican Primary Election almost tripled the total turnout from the 2010 Republican Primary Election.

Friends,

As you know, tomorrow, March 13th, is when we go to the polls and vote in the Republican Primary Election, and I am asking for your support and vote.

Since being elected as your Republican Congressman in 2010, I have stood strong as a principled conservative fighting against the liberal Washington agenda. I am proud to have voted to cut over $10 trillion dollars in federal spending, led the charge for a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution, and promoted our South Mississippi values. Additionally, I have made sure we do not balance the budget on the backs of our seniors or our men and women who bravely fight for our freedoms.

With your help, together, we can turn our country around and put us on the Path to Prosperity by cutting taxes, reducing our staggering debt and deficits, fully repealing Obamacare, and getting our economy moving again by removing burdensome regulations for our job creators.

All voting locations throughout the 4th Congressional district are open from 7am-7pm. If you are unsure where you need to vote, you may click here to find your polling location.

Once again, I ask for your support and vote tomorrow in the Republican Primary Election as we move our country forward in the right direction.

Sincerely,

It appears the two Democrats and two Republicans challenging first term U.S. Rep. Steven Palazzo may face an uphill climb. Only one reported any campaign funds, while the incumbent has over $500,000.

Palazzo faces Republicans Ron Vincent and Cindy Burleson in the GOP primary Tuesday and Democrats Michael Herrington and Jason Vitosky will square off in the Democratic primary. Diamondhead’s Robert W. Claunch, 84, is a Reform Party candidate who faces no primary opponent.

Palazzo, the first-term Republican Congressman, who defeated longtime incumbent Democrat Gene Taylor in 2010, posted $568,934 in campaign donations, including $306,000 on hand, in the most recent FEC report dated Feb. 22. Of the other candidates, only Vincent, who has who has raised $4,960 according to his reports, has filed campaign finance records.

Heading into Tuesday, Palazzo said he believes he has much support.

“They appreciate what I am doing up in Washington and they know we have a lot of work ahead of us,” Palazzo said. “We didn’t get into this mess overnight, but they are confident I am going to be able to help them and their families. I’ve got their prayers, their support and their vote on Tuesday. That gives me the encouragement to keep working hard for them.”

Palazzo has been taking the message to voters he plans to continue fighting spending, regulations and “the government takeover of healthcare” among other priorities.

With few funds for pricey advertisements, Palazzo’s opponents Tuesday are at a distinct funding disadvantage. They said they would spend the next few days trying to hit spots across the 15-county district, which stretches from the Coast north almost to Meridian.

Vincent, a retired engineer and TEA Party candidate from Hattiesburg, said in addition to what’s in the latest report, he put up about $25,000 of his own money toward his election bid, but acknowledges he may need a miracle.

“It’s (a longshot) if you just look at the money, but Tuesday is where the rubber meets the road,” Vincent said.

Vincent believes there’s a feeling among voters that Palazzo doesn’t make himself available to constituents enough, or hold enough town hall meetings, which could help Vincent’s chances. Palazzo disagrees with that.

“We’re 100 percent accessible,” Palazzo said. “I pass out business cards with my cellphone number and email address on them for people to get in touch with me. We travel the district every time I am not in DC, constantly hitting all 15 counties, drinking coffee at gas stations, having breakfast and going to Rotary and other civic club meetings. We are extremely accessible, but I think that’s the kind of political rhetoric you hear on a campaign.”

Burleson, of Hattiesburg, is chair/CEO of the International Sibling Society, which aims to “increase awareness of international child abandonment, sport for development and peace, and Olympic values.” Burleson said she expects to receive more funds after the primary, which she believes will result in a major upset for her.

“I am looking forward to a landslide victory,” Burleson said.

She said promoting renewable energy is one of the main topics of her discussions with voters. She favors more use of solar panels, in particular, to provide power to homes.

Neither candidate in the Democratic primary has reported any funds, according to the FEC database. The 26-year-old Vitosky, of Gulfport, said he was spending the next few days getting the word out at Democratic meetings in the area. He’s been talking to voters about his ideas for improving education, including finding ways to make textbooks cheaper and getting more educational materials online and making better use of video lectures.

“I just hope people will look past party lines and do their due diligence to research the candidates,” Vitosky said.

Herrington, a 27-year-old from Hattiesburg who operates street sweeping and catering businesses, said he was working hard leading up to Tuesday’s vote, putting out signs and meeting voters in the district. Herrington said he’s hoping to bring more jobs to the area by recruiting more employers. He believes the district needs someone who “puts the people of Mississippi first and not party agenda” instead.

“We’ve been out working every day throughout the district to meet and greet folks,” Herrington said. “We’re pretty excited about it.”

Friends,

We are now 6 days from the Republican Primary Election, and with your support, our campaign to keep Conservative Mississippi values in Washington will be victorious on Tuesday, March 13th.

Last week, I was honored to be ranked one of the most conservative Members of Congress by the American Conservative Union as well as the National Journal. With steadfast conservative resolve we can continue to reverse Obama’s destructive policies that have led to record deficits, debt and unemployment in America.

Yesterday, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) predicted the unemployment rate will remain above 8% through 2014. The real unemployment rate, including those who can’t find full time work, is at 15%, further proving the path that Obama is taking us down is the wrong path for America. The path of failed energy policy and high unemployment is the wrong direction for South Mississippi.

With gas prices skyrocketing, sixty-seven percent of Americans say the rapid increase in gas prices have caused financial hardship in their households. Economist worry that high gas prices could bring a new economic downturn. Despite the hardship and danger high fuel prices put on Americans and the economy, this Administration has made it a priority to prevent the private sector from tapping our domestic energy resources. In 2008, when gas prices reached $4 per gallon, the Bush Administration in a bipartisan manner, ended a thirty-year moratorium on outer continental shelf (OCS) exploration. Almost immediately gas prices dropped at the pumps. The current administration, however, has closed OCS drilling and has instituted moratoriums that have resulted in the departure of nearly a third of the Gulf of Mexico’s deep water drilling rigs and the thousands jobs that depend on them.

While the president and Democrats cast blame on why prices at the pump continue to increase, House Republicans have put forth plans for an all-of-the above energy policy that taps our vast American resources and will put Americans immediately back to work. This Administration has blocked the Keystone XL pipeline and the 800,000 barrels of oil per day that would flow to U.S. refineries from Canada while creating 20,000 jobs. All the while Senate Democrats are sitting on 30 other bipartisan, House passed jobs bills, that address rising gas prices, boost energy production and create real, high paying jobs. As a former rigger, roustabout, and materials manager for offshore drilling platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, I am proud to have voted to expand offshore oil exploration through requiring immediate lease sales and undoing the excessive regulations that are restraining our domestic energy production.

Please join me on Monday, March 12 at 10 a.m., at the Gulf Coast Collesium as I will be speaking at the 2012 Gulf Coast Energy Summit. This event is open to the public and attendance is free. Please register online to confirm your attendace by clicking here.

With your support next Tuesday, I will continue to enact a common-sense energy policy that will utilize our resources, lower gas prices here at home and put people to work right away.

Thank you for your continued support,

Sincerely,

Rep. Steven Palazzo Rated One of the Most Conservative Members of Congress

Representative Steven Palazzo (R-Biloxi) has been rated as one of the most conservative Members of Congress, earning a score of 84.

This week, the American Conservative Union (ACU) released their ratings of Members of Congress on key conservative issues. The ACU has been rating Members since 1971 and have been considered the most important measuring stick in American Politics.

“I am pleased to make the list of the most conservative Members of Congress. Since being elected in 2010, I have tirelessly fought against the liberal Obama agenda by leading the charge to institute a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution in effort to get Washington spending under control and cancel the President’s blank check policy,” said Palazzo.

Representative Palazzo has a strong voting record of protecting South Mississippi values and standing up to protect our brave men and women serving in the Armed Forces. “As the only Congressman serving as a Sergeant in the Army National Guard, I understand how important a strong military is to the security of our nation. I also have voted to repeal and defund Obamacare.” He continued to say, “My number one focus has been getting South Mississippi’s economy working again by allowing families to keep more of the money they earn in their pockets and stop burdensome regulations and taxes that stifle innovation and job growth.”

Rep. Palazzo is a former small business owner and CPA from Biloxi serving his first term in Congress as Assistant Majority Whip. He is running for re-election in the March 13th Republican Primary. He has voted to cut over $10 trillion from the federal budget and has supported the 28 House Republican jobs bills waiting for action in the Senate.

The ACU is America’s largest grassroots organization that determines which representatives stand strongest in the beliefs on constitutionally limited government, individual liberty, free markets, a strong national defense and traditional values.

Friends,

Last week President Obama announced his FY 2013 budget which offers more of the same failed economic policies we have endured since he took office in 2008. Obama has failed to lead our country back to economic prosperity and continues to mismanage our economy by proposing tax increases and record spending bills.

President Obama’s 2013 budget will spend $3.7 trillion dollars, over $1 trillion more than the U.S. Treasury will bring in next year for the fourth year in a row. After four years and four different trillion dollar deficits, it’s clear we can’t tax, spend, borrow, and bail out our way to economic growth. Piling on more debt is preventing private sector job growth. Three years after the stimulus bill, America’s effective unemployment rate remains at a staggering 15 percent.

28 House Republican Jobs Bills
Instead of more of the same failed ‘stimulus’-style policies, it is time the President and liberals in the Senate pass the 28 jobs bills House Republicans sent to the Democrat led Senate to get our economy moving on the Path to Prosperity. The House Republican jobs bills will create real jobs, shrink our debt and deficits, lower taxes and protect the future of Medicare. I am proud to stand by my record for voting to cut wasteful government spending and burdensome regulations that stifle innovation and job growth.

Mississippi Manufacturers Association Endorsement
My support for pro-growth policies has gained an endorsement from the leading voice for industry in Mississippi. The Mississippi Manufacturers Association (MMA) supports my “leadership and business-friendly voting record which includes stopping burdensome regulations, supporting a strong defense, and eliminating job-killing tax proposals that limit job growth.” If you haven’t seen the MMA endorsement press release, click here to read it in its entirety.

Leading by Example
Since being elected as you Representative, I have tried to lead by example. How can we ask Americans to tighten their belts on spending without Congress first doing the same? I have voted to cut my Congressional Office budget by over $100,000, voluntarily declined my Congressional pension and co-sponsored legislation that would eliminate pensions in Congress.

I am proud to be doing the work you sent me to do: reversing Obama’s big government policies, cutting spending now, capping future spending, and taking away the blank check mentality that persists in Washington by fighting for a balanced budget amendment. But, the work is not over.

To continue the fight, I need your help to get the word out in the Fourth Congressional District. We are less than 3 weeks away from the March 13 Primary Election. If you want to tell your friends and neighbors why you support my candidacy for re-election, you can write a Letter to the Editor to your local paper by clicking here.

Click here if you want to show your support by having a yard sign, a bumper sticker, or by volunteering your time to make phone calls. You may also call my campaign office in Gulfport at 228-265-7820 if you have any questions.

Finally, I would be very thankful for a donation of any size: $500, $100, $50, $25, or even $10 goes a long way. You can give online right now by clicking here.

Thank you for your continued to support.

Sincerely,

Friends,

I would like to extend a gracious thank you to all that helped make our February 4th campaign kick-off event with Majority Leader Eric Cantor a great success. The event was held on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and attracted almost 300 people! It is great knowing our re-election efforts have started with so much strong support.

We are less than 30 days away from the March 13th Republican Primary Election. Our momentum is building and we must remain focused for the next 26 days. South Mississippians need a leader in Washington representing conservative values of smaller government and less spending. I want to keep fighting for you and I ask for your support once again.

With your help, I will continue to fight to fully repeal Obamacare, stop runaway spending, balance our budget, and maintain a strong national defense. I will continue to fight to stop Obama’s reckless policies that stifle private sector job growth and work to create an American energy policy focused on reducing our dependence on foreign oil, such as building the Keystone Pipeline.

I was fortunate to have your help in 2010 and I’m asking you to help me again in the March 13th Primary. We have a great team in place but we need your help! We are looking for volunteers to assist with phone banks to help spread our message throughout the 4th Congressional district. If your interested in helping us, please email info@palazzoforcongress.com. You can request a bumper sticker or get a yard sign to show your support. We will have daily phone banks located in our Gulfport campaign headquarters at 2202 25th Avenue, Suite B in Gulfport (across Highway 49 from the Autozone). You may also call the headquarters at 228-265-7820 if you have any questions.

Our phone banks will be running from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. We have call lists for the entire district and you can make calls from the comfort of your own home. Just let us know and we will personally deliver the lists to you or you can pick one up at our campaign office. If you would like to volunteer please email info@palazzoforcongress.com or call 228-265-7820.

Thank you again for you continued support. I look forward to seeing you in the weeks ahead.
