It’s Because of You

Friends -

We made history last night. Together, we did the unthinkable.

So today I want to say thank you. Thank you to my family for your unwavering support. Thank you to my campaign staff and volunteers. Without the army of volunteers, we would not have been able to seize the moment. Thank you to all of my supporters for standing with me in our fight to put our South Mississippi values back in Washington. Thank you for believing in me and thank you for trusting in me. I will not let you down.

The battle we have won, but the war continues on. I will continue to defend Mississippi from from job-killing policies and higher taxes. I will fight for job creation, and less government spending. The promises I made throughout my campaign will not change. I will be the voice for South Mississippi in Washington that you have asked me to be. We have many challenges ahead of us. We will meet these challenges, and we will move Mississippi forward, together.

Thank you again for all of your hard work and prayers. We did this together, and together we will get South Mississippi back on the right track. I will be your Congressman, and I’m looking forward to staying in touch in towns and communities throughout the 4th District.

Warm Regards,

Steven Palazzo

GO VOTE

For two years we have been waiting for this moment, Election Day. We’ve spent the past two years frustrated by the Obama-Pelosi government. And we’ve worked furiously to finally put an end to their policies that threaten the future of our country. Now, we have only one last thing to do. GO VOTE! And call all your friends, family and neighbors to also go vote! The polls are opened at 7:00 AM and will remain open until 7 PM.

Today we have a clear choice for the future of South Mississippi. I will vote for tax cuts and work on a conservative team that will promote job creation policies and protect Mississippi values, the free market, a smart energy policy, insurance reform, and cut debt and deficit spending. My opponent admits he opposes tax cuts, admits he voted for billions in bailout, and his liberal team led by Nancy Pelosi brought us Obamacare, cap and trade, no insurance reform, and the failed $1 trillion stimulus plan that did nothing to stem the tide of unemployment growth.  Under my opponent, we’ll only get more liberal policies that threaten to derail our country, but I believe there is a better way forward and that’s the conservative way.

I want to thank our team of hundreds of volunteers who have knocked on thirty thousand homes and made thousands of personal calls to help this campaign, and I want to thank each person who has supported this campaign and entrusted me with their vote. We have an opportunity to change the direction of our country and elect a conservative congress.  When we vote, we give our voice to our Congressman.  My opponent gave our vote, gave our voice to Nancy Pelosi, a San Francisco liberal who doesn’t care about our South Mississippi values.

There is a better way. South Mississippi trusts I will use my voice and vote in Washington to promote conservative policies, and I will take my small business experience to reduce the taxation, regulation, and litigation that kills jobs. I will be an effective member of the conservative team and represent South Mississippi with every vote.

Thank you,

Steven

In their own words, Why Liberals Need Gene Taylor

The Jackson Advocate, a liberal Mississippi paper, has made the case of why Gene Taylor needs to stay in office. Ironically, their case for Gene Taylor is exactly the conservative case against him.

“We need to go to the Polls and re-elect Gene Taylor to help work with the current (Barack Obama) administration…We need them (Taylor) since they will caucus with the Democrats in order to establish the leadership of the House of Representatives. Without a majority in Congress, President Obama cannot get his programs acted into law. It is as simple as that. (The Jackson Advocate, 10/28/10)

Steven had this to say in response:

“For twenty-one years Congressman Taylor has cloaked himself in conservatism to stay in office. The fact is, he is bought and paid for by the liberal, Washington leadership. His campaign is funded by Nancy Pelosi and in Congress he will use the voice we have given him to keep Nancy Pelosi and her liberal cronies in power. A vote for Gene Taylor is nothing more than a vote for more of Barack Obama’s failed policies that have killed jobs and increased our debt to $14 trillion dollars.” – Steven Palazzo

Palazzo will put Mississippi first

The 4th Congressional District deserves a representative who understands our district and will vote responsibly.

We need a true conservative who will put Mississippi first, and that person is Steven Palazzo.

For too long the 4th District has not had a true conservative who will stand for what he believes and supports a conservative mission.

In this mid-year election, we have an opportunity to change our U.S. representative in Washington.

As the 2008 Republican nominee for Mississippi’s 4th Congressional District, I know we can reclaim this seat. We can achieve this goal if we will encourage our family, friends and neighbors to go to the polls and vote in these disturbing times for our country.

Nancy Pelosi Bails Out Gene Taylor

Congressman Taylor’s loyalty to Nancy Pelosi and her liberal agenda is paying dividends. Nancy Pelosi is now spending thousands of dollars to save Gene Taylor’s seat by negatively attacking conservative Republican Steven Palazzo. If you didn’t believe Congressman Taylor had lost his way before, you’ll be a true believer now.

Now that his buddies came to Congressman Taylor’s rescue, it’s clear a vote for Congressman Taylor is a vote to continue Nancy Pelosi’s job-killing liberal agenda. South Mississippi can’t afford two more years of Congressman Taylor’s dangerous loyalty to Nancy Pelosi. On November 2nd, let’s send Gene Taylor home.

The Truth About The 13th Check

With only a few days until Election Day, my opponent is desperate and has sadly turned to spreading falsehoods about my character and my conservative voting record in the state Legislature. Since he can’t be proud of his own record of supporting bail outs and new taxes on businesses and families, he’s resulted to falsely attacking my proven conservative record and misleading you.

One such attack involves the “13th” check. The truth is I have stood strong for the “13th” check and I will always honor our commitment to our teachers, firemen, law enforcement and our state’s dedicated civil servants.

Please take these facts below and share them with your friends and family to finally put an end to the attacks from my desperate opponent. His attacks are just an attempt to distract you from the real issues facing our country, which are record unemployment, reckless deficit spending and our massive $14 trillion dollar debt.

Here are the facts:

  • Any accusation that Steven would cut or tried to end the “13th” check is false. Steven is committed to honoring the retirement of our state’s public servants. Steven has worked to protect the “13th” check and prevent further state layoffs like we’ve seen in other states.
  • Steven’s supported a bill that affected the COLA formula for new hires only. Steven killed the bill after the legislature omitted language that protects those currently in the system. This bill was never voted on, never became law and is dead.
  • Steven sought to protect retirees and future retirees and help prevent state and municipal layoffs and furloughs through sound fiscal responsibility. We must keep our promises to retirees and those who have contributed to their retirement. We must keep current state and municipal workers gainfully employed and prevent future layoffs.

Yesterday, I was interviewed by WDAM and I had the opportunity to discuss several of my positions including the “13th” check. I talk about the “13th”check at the 4:40 mark.  Please take some time to listen to the truth and help stop this false attack against me. Remember, our campaign is about stopping Nancy Pelosi’s liberal agenda that threatens to train wreck our country and finally restoring conservative values to Congress. We won’t be distracted by politics as usual.

PALAZZO WINS DEBATE

Steven Palazzo promises conservative leadership
Gene Taylor dodges his own votes; takes credit for the work of others

Tonight Steven Palazzo presented clear and conservative strategies for addressing the needs of South Mississippi from shipbuilding and job creation to insurance reform to tax cuts.

Meanwhile a visibly frustrated and defensive Gene Taylor tried to dodge his own votes and take credit for the work of others. The only liberal vote Gene Taylor did admit to was voting against the Bush tax cuts.

Gene Taylor Dodges His Votes

  • Gene Taylor dodged his liberal vote against the conservative Republican alternative to Obamacare.
  • Gene Taylor refused to address his liberal votes for Nancy Pelosi, and instead of answering the question used typical Washington politics to try to attack Steven Palazzo.
  • Gene Taylor said he “voted the will of his constituents every time.”  But he voted for Nancy Pelosi twice, something the voters of Mississippi would not support even once, much less twice.
  • Gene Taylor claimed he did not vote with Nancy Pelosi’s liberal Democrats.  But he does…82% of the time!  Source: 110th and 11th Congress Combined total of Gene Taylor’s votes for Democrat Majority Position, Washington Post Votes Database

Gene Taylor Takes Credit for Others’ Work

  • Gene Taylor tried to take responsibility for $45.6 billion in Defense Department contracts without acknowledging the work of Mississippi’s Senators like Trent Lott who served as Majority Leader, Thad Cochran who served as Appropriations Chairman, and Roger Wicker whose leadership on the House Appropriations Committee as well as in the Senate is greatly responsible for those projects.
  • Gene Taylor tried to take responsibility for $21 billion in Hurricane Katrina Recovery funds without acknowledging the work of the rest of Mississippi’s congressional delegation including Senate Appropriations Chairman Thad Cochran or even Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour.

Vote For A Change November 2

Friends,

With just days to go before Election Day, the choice facing voters in South Mississippi couldn’t be clearer. We are in need of new leaders who will not hedge in opposing the liberal Obama-Pelosi agenda. In order to get the country back on track, we must put an end to the big-government, job-killing agenda that Washington politicians have embraced. As a small business owner and a Marine, I know what it takes to create jobs and respond to crises like the one facing our country today. I’m giving my commitment to the people of South Mississippi that if they send me to Congress I’ll work from day one to fire Nancy Pelosi, stand up to Barack Obama, and provide the leadership we need to end reckless spending, get the government out of the way of the private sector, and start creating jobs.

Warm Regards,

Steven Palazzo

Gene Just Can’t Remember

“Taylor’s desperate attempts to make people forget about his record won’t change the fact that he voted for Speaker Nancy Pelosi twice and helped push through the dangerous Obama-Pelosi liberal agenda. Taylor may have ‘forgotten’ who he voted for just a few years ago, but South Mississippi won’t soon forget about the damage his votes for higher taxes and bailouts have caused. It’s time to stop talking about the past and start focusing on the future, and that starts with replacing Gene Taylor and repairing the damage that he and Nancy Pelosi have done.” – Hunter Lipscomb

BACKGROUND:

  • In September 2010, after almost four years of the Taylor-Pelosi agenda, Mississippi’s unemployment rate has increased 50 percent. (Source: BLS)
  • Taylor claims he just doesn’t remember who he supported in the 2000 and 2004 elections after touting his new-found support for John McCain:
  • “Democratic Rep. Gene Taylor of Mississippi caused something of a minor sensation in political circles Monday when a comment he made to the Sun Herald of Biloxi, Miss. – that he had voted for GOP nominee John McCain instead of Democratic standard-bearer Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election – went viral on the Web…”
  • “When the Sun Herald asked Tuesday if the Mississippi Democrat had voted for Republican George W. Bush in 2004 and 2000, Taylor paused, then said, ‘I’m not being evasive. I just don’t remember.’” (Maria Recio, “Mississippi Democrat’s Vote for McCain Starts Internet Furor,” Biloxi Sun Herald, 10/26/10)

Desperate Gene Taylor, The Say Anything to Stay in Washington Candidate

Gene is desperate and he is trying to run from his votes for Nancy Pelosi and hide his liberal record. He’ll say and do anything to stay in Washington with his liberal cronies Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama.

Five weeks before an election, Gene said he’d support the repeal of ObamaCare. Then he conveniently announced he’d support Ike Skelton over Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House. As if that is much of an improvement, Ike Skelton is in the fight of his life because he votes for Nancy Pelosi’s liberal agenda 95 percent of the time. On Sunday, just 9 days from an election, Gene tried to distance himself from President Obama and say he voted for John McCain in 2008.

Gene you can’t have it both ways anymore. South Mississippians are tired of your politics as usual. The liberal policies of your Democrat leadership failed and Mississippians have been hurt because of it. You voted for Nancy Pelosi twice and Mississippians will pay dearly under ObamaCare, Cap-and-Trade and higher taxes that will destroy jobs. We’ll never let you vote for Nancy Pelosi a third time. On Election Day, we’re voting to send you home.
